Our story
Built by people who have bought cars the hard way.
SecondCar was founded by a small team from the UK motor trade — auction managers, vehicle inspectors and dealers — who had spent years watching buyers take a gamble on cars they could not properly assess.
We built an online auction that works the way we would want to buy: detailed photos of every panel, an honest condition grade, a history check that is actually shown to you and a clear total price. Then we added the protections that make online bidding fair, like proxy bidding and automatic time extensions.
Today we sell cars to private buyers, families, independent dealers and fleet operators across England, Scotland and Wales. Every car still goes through the same inspection lane and every buyer gets the same information.

Our inspection process
How a car earns its place at auction.
Before a car is listed it passes through the same six stages. If we are not happy with what we find, it is either disclosed clearly on the listing or it does not go on sale at all.

Intake & identity checks
We confirm the VIN, registration and V5C, count the keys and record the mileage.

History checks
HPI check for finance, theft and write-off markers, plus DVLA and MOT history.

Technical inspection
Bodywork, interior, electrics, engine and underside assessed against a fixed checklist.
- 04
Road test
Steering, brakes, gearbox and suspension tested on the road where the car is driveable.

Photography
Detailed exterior, interior and damage photos, with every mark shown and labelled.

Listing & grading
An overall condition grade, honest description and the full report published on the lot.
