Our vehicles come with a warranty covering qualifying mechanical and electrical components, giving you added peace of mind with your purchase. It is included in the price, and we handle claims ourselves.

The warranty is issued with your payment receipt and starts on the day of handover. Look for “30-day warranty” on the vehicle page — a few lots, such as non-runners, are sold without it and say so on the listing.

What is covered

The sudden and unexpected mechanical or electrical failure of these components during the warranty period:

Engine
Internal lubricated parts: pistons and rings, cylinder bores, crankshaft and bearings, connecting rods, camshafts and followers, valves and springs, timing chain, gears and tensioners, oil pump, cylinder head and head gasket.
Turbo
Turbocharger or supercharger unit.
Gearbox
Manual gearbox internal parts; automatic, DSG and CVT internal parts, torque converter and mechatronic unit / valve body.
Clutch hydraulics
Clutch master and slave cylinders and concentric release bearing.
Drivetrain
Differential, transfer box, propshaft, driveshafts and CV joints.
Cooling
Water pump, radiator, thermostat and housing, cooling fan and motor, heater matrix.
Fuel system
Fuel pumps (in-tank and high-pressure), injectors and fuel pressure regulator.
Steering
Steering rack or box, power steering pump and electric power steering motor.
Brakes
Brake master cylinder, servo, ABS pump and modulator.
Electrical
Alternator, starter motor, engine ECU and control modules, ignition coils, engine sensors, window, wiper and central-locking motors, instrument cluster.
Air conditioning
Compressor and condenser (re-gas included only as part of a covered repair).

What is not covered

Wear-and-tear and service items: brake pads, discs, drums and shoes; clutch friction plate, pressure plate and dual-mass flywheel; tyres; wiper blades; bulbs; filters; spark and glow plugs; auxiliary and timing belts; the 12V battery; shock absorbers, springs, bushes and suspension joints; the exhaust system.
Any fault, warning light or advisory disclosed before the sale — in the listing, the inspection report, the condition notes or the MOT history.
Blockages, carbon build-up or contamination: DPF, EGR valve, catalytic converter, and damage caused by the wrong or contaminated fuel.
Damage caused by an accident, misuse, neglect, overheating, lack of oil or coolant, frost or flood, or by continuing to drive after a fault or warning light appeared.
High-voltage traction batteries, inverters and charging equipment on hybrid and electric vehicles.
Bodywork, paint, glass, trim, upholstery, seals, water leaks, noises and rattles; keys and remotes; infotainment, sat-nav and software updates.
Routine servicing, adjustments, recalibration and diagnostic time where the fault is not covered.
Consequential loss: recovery, hire car, travel, accommodation or loss of earnings.
Repairs started or authorised without our written approval.
Vehicles that have been modified, used for hire or reward (taxi, courier, rental), used in competition, or taken outside the UK mainland.

How to make a claim

1If a warning light comes on or you notice a fault, stop driving as soon as it is safe. Further damage caused by driving on is not covered.
2Tell us within 7 days of the fault appearing, and before the warranty ends, on hello@secondcar.co.uk, quoting warranty number your warranty number (WC-…).
3Do not start any repair. We arrange the diagnosis — at our premises or at a VAT-registered garage we approve.
4We confirm in writing what is covered before work starts, and either pay the garage directly or reimburse you against a VAT invoice, up to £5,000 per claim.
5Repairs may use new, reconditioned or quality used parts. Labour is paid at the manufacturer's standard repair times, up to £60 an hour plus VAT.

The warranty starts on the day the vehicle is handed over to you (collection or delivery) and ends 30 days later or once the vehicle has covered 1,000 miles from the odometer reading at sale, whichever comes first.
It covers the sudden and unexpected failure of a listed component. The maximum we pay is £5,000 per claim, including parts, labour and VAT, and no more than the sale price of the vehicle in total. There is no excess.
Keep the oil and coolant at the correct levels, follow the manufacturer service schedule and act promptly on any warning light. We may inspect the vehicle and ask to see the failed parts before agreeing a claim.
The warranty is included in the price at no extra cost. It is personal to you, cannot be transferred, and ends if the vehicle is sold or the purchase is cancelled or refunded.
This warranty is given in addition to your statutory rights, including those under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and does not affect them.

What is covered

The sudden and unexpected mechanical or electrical failure of these components during the warranty period:

Engine
